I have a confession to make. I’m a holiday hoarder.
Yes, it’s true. And anyone who knows me, knows I love a holiday. I mean ALL of them!
It doesn’t matter if it’s Positive Thinking Day, Elephant Appreciation Day or even Collect a Rock Day, holidays simply make me happy and give me another excuse to celebrate.

So just imagine my delight this week when I turned the calendar to June only to discover a new holiday that celebrates one of my favorite indulgences – donuts.
That’s right friends – Friday, June 2 is National Donut Day.
Cue the singing angles.
That means we’ll be off to Dunkin’ Donuts to ring in the day in a most delicious and delectable way. That’s because Dunkin Donuts is offering guests in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area a free donut of their choice (while supplies last) with the purchase of any beverage.
The offer is good all day on June 2 at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants nationwide.
To make the day even sweeter, at 10:00 a.m. on June 2, Dunkin’ will deliver 60 dozen donuts to the Dallas Police Department headquarters at 1400 S. Lamar Street, Dallas, to be distributed to all substations. Dunkin’ is proud to support law enforcement and is making sure the officers have the opportunity to participate in the free donut offer.
Now that we’ve got our first responders taken care of for National Donut Day, our second response is to is learn a little bit about the history of the holiday.
While munching on our yummy goodies at our neighborhood Dunkin’ Donuts store, my girls and I read that National Donut Day was originally established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
The holiday is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of June which falls on June 2 this year. Since Dunkin’ Donuts has been serving signature donuts for 66 years as the #1 retailer of donuts in America, we thought what better place to celebrate National Donut Day.
On Friday I might just break out in song with my own Donut Day holiday carol, or maybe I’ll show my holiday spirit and hang a donut wreath for my front door.
You think that might be a little over the top? Instead of completely embarrassing my teen daughters, I’ll just make a stop to Dunkin’ Donuts to celebrate National Donut Day.
For me, It just doesn’t get any sweeter than this.
