Although summer’s winding down there’s still time to squeeze in a fabulous family getaway for one last weekend retreat before school starts.
Since Labor Day is just around the corner, with a built in three-day weekend to go with it, we’ve discovered one of the best places to celebrate a holiday escape is at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa.
This expansive resort is nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country just outside of the city. As soon as we pulled up to the impressive entrance we were met by the staff’s genuine Texas friendliness, which complimented the ambiance of the property’s chic western sophistication.
Amazing views and vistas of the scenic Hill Country surrounded every turn and we instantly knew that this would be memorable end-of-summer vacation.
The resort sports a 36-hole golf course, an adult-only infinity pool, Lantana Spa, 9-acre waterpark with a lazy river, seven restaurants, and 288,000 square feet of versatile meeting and event space.
There’s absolutely something for everyone, no matter your kids’ interests or the size of your family.
We easily made ourselves at home in our spacious room which featured pillow-top bedding, a marble bathroom and a private balcony overlooking the River Bluff Water Experience aback of the scenic rolling hills.
Sitting on the balcony to enjoy the tranquil view was just the break I needed to decompress before we started to explore the grounds.
The recreation experiences are categorized in areas of wellness, nature’s treasures, the arts, magical nights and poolside fun. Each experience featured a selection of carefully created activities for guests of all ages.
That’s one of the things that I liked most because no matter if you’re looking for relaxation or thrilling adventures, you’ll be able to find just the perfect combination to celebrate these last days of summer before school starts soon.
Here are a few quick tips on planning your Labor Day Escape at JW Marriott San Antonio:
(Resort activities and times may vary. Check in advance for details).
Book the Perfect Package
Squeeze the most you can out of the Labor Day weekend with a special resort package to help vacationers celebrate the end-of-summer fun. It’s also best to book early for the best rates and dates. If you stay a minimum of two nights, you’ll receive a $100 nightly resort credit to use towards your favorite activities including spa treatments, dining and more. Room rates range $319-$509 and are valid through February 28, 2017.
Making the Most of a Four-Day Weekend
Schedule your stay for a Thursday-Sunday or a Friday-Tuesday and you’ll only need to use two vacation days. This will give the kids more time to make a big splash at the newly expanded 9-acre River Bluff Water Experience. My teens had a blast on the 47-foot-high body slide and building masterpieces in the sandy beach. While they were having fun, I took a relaxing dip in the new 130-foot-long pool and finished up my summer paperback in one of the two whirlpool spas.
Saturdays are for Relaxation
Sleep in a little on Saturday, then head down to Aerial Yoga at the new River Bend Pavilion lawn for a yoga experience unlike any other. With the support of a soft, aerial fabric hammock, instructors teach guests how to achieve traditional and new yoga poses both in the air and on the ground. This unique form of yoga increases flexibility and range of motion while building strength.
At night, things really get wild at the JW Marriott San Antonio.
You can take a guided Nightlife Nature Walk where you can catch a stunning sunset over Cibolo Canyon followed by a lesson in calling Screech Owls at dusk. This nature walk heads into a 1,000-acre wildlife management ranch that sits just outside the resort’s lobby. As dusk settles and the nightlife kicks in, guests can hoot for owls and lookout for other famous Texas critters that call the ranch home.
The resort also offers Kids’ Night Out, which is a special evening presented by the onsite Range Riders Kids Club formulated for young guests ages four to 12. Offered nightly from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., different themed celebrations are planned that include crafts, games and movies where kids have fun and parents can enjoy some alone time.
Now that you’re in a stress-free state-of-mind, you are ready to enjoy everything that the resort has to offer. Book an indulging in a spa treatment at Lantana Spa. Afterwards you might like to treat yourself to a special dinner at one of the resort’s many restaurants like Cibolo Moon for signature southwestern fare or 18 Oaks for an exceptional steakhouse experience.
Maximize Your Monday
With your departure scheduled for either Monday evening or early Tuesday morning, you’ll want to make the most of your Monday.
If available, sign up for a painting class that will help you channel your inner Picasso. Guests enjoy step-by-step instruction with experienced and enthusiastic local artists as they look out onto the beautiful new River Bend Pavilion event lawn that includes the Texas Hill Country as a backdrop. Leave with a one-of-a-kind creation and a renewed sense of creative empowerment.
If your kids want to try something a little more “wild,” they’re sure to enjoy hanging out with a resident paleontologist. He’ll thrill and educate kids with treasures found in the creeks and crevices of the region.
Overall, you and your kids will have an unforgettable Labor Day during your visit to JW Marriott San Antonio. This premier Texas destination is a great place to celebrate one last summer getaway before the first school bell rings.
